Electric Heaters

Mestic gas heaters include built-in safety features including oxygen depletion sensors (ODS), tip-over protection, and flame failure devices. Always ensure adequate ventilation when using any gas heater indoors — keep a roof vent or window partially open. Never use a gas heater while sleeping, and always have a working carbon monoxide alarm fitted in your vehicle.

If you have a campsite hook-up, an electric ceramic heater is the easiest and safest option — no gas bottles, no ventilation requirements, and you can leave it running overnight. If you tour off-grid or mainly use awnings, a gas heater is more practical as it needs no electrical connection. Many tourers carry both for maximum flexibility.

The Mestic MRK-100 gas heater uses approximately 100–150g of gas per hour at full output. A standard 907 Camping Gaz cylinder (2.75kg net) provides roughly 18–27 hours of heating. On lower settings for maintaining a comfortable temperature, consumption is significantly less.

The Mestic MKK-230 draws approximately 1,500W (around 6.5 amps). On a standard UK campsite 16A hook-up, this leaves plenty of capacity for other appliances. On continental European sites with lower amp supplies (6A–10A), you may need to reduce other electrical loads while the heater is running.
