How to Clean Your Portable Solar Panels Safely

Dust, pollen, bird droppings and road grime can all reduce the output of your portable solar panels over time. Cleaning them periodically helps maintain performance, but it is important to use the right techniques and products.

1. Always follow the manufacturer’s guidance

Before you start, check the care advice in your panel’s manual. Some coatings and materials require specific cleaning methods.

2. Clean in cool conditions

Allow panels to cool before cleaning. Spraying cold water onto a very hot surface can cause thermal stress.

3. Start by rinsing away loose dirt

  • Use clean, fresh water to gently rinse dust and loose debris from the surface.
  • A hose with a light spray setting is usually sufficient – avoid high-pressure jets.

4. Use a soft cloth or sponge

  • Look for cracked insulation, bent pins or loose connectors.
